The Heart Behind the Name
Makeda's Cookies was founded in loving memory of Makeda Denise Hill, born October 11, 1990, to Morris and Willie Mae Hill. After bravely battling leukemia at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Makeda passed away on July 18, 1997. Our bakery was created to honor her life, her strength, and her unforgettable spirit. In the Holy Bible, Makeda was known as the Queen of Sheba. Here in Memphis, Tennessee, Makeda is the Queen of Cookies — a symbol of sweetness, resilience, and love. She was the first child, first grandchild, and first great-grandchild in our family, and her legacy continues through every batch we bake.
